Why is my visibility low when my site is cited often?

Updated

Short answer

Being cited and being named are different outcomes. An engine can use your page as a source without mentioning your brand in the answer. That is a content problem rather than an authority one: the page is trusted, but nothing in it makes your brand the answer.

Cited versus named

OutcomeWhat it means
Cited and namedThe page is trusted and makes your brand part of the answer
Cited, not namedThe page is trusted for facts, but the answer credits no one or someone else
Named, not citedThe engine knows you from elsewhere, often training data or third-party pages

What to change on the cited page

  • Tie the useful information to your product explicitly, rather than writing it as neutral background.
  • State what you do and who it is for near the top.
  • Answer the question the prompt asks in a sentence that still names you when quoted on its own.
