The models are not deterministic and the web they read changes daily. Single-day movement is usually noise; a trend across a week or more on a fixed prompt set is signal.
Where the day-to-day movement comes from
Ask the same engine the same question twice and the answer can name different brands. Engines that search the web also read different pages from one day to the next. Both show up as small daily swings.
How to read a trend
- Look at a week or more, not a single day.
- Compare on a prompt set that has not changed in that period.
- Read each engine separately before reading the combined number.
- Check the answers behind a big move before reacting to it.
