AEO basics

What AI answers are, what AEO is, and how engines choose brands.

When someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity for a recommendation, the engine writes one answer naming a handful of brands. There is no page two. Your search ranking does not decide whether you are in that answer — what the models have read about you does. Noma measures which answers name you, where you sit in them, and which of your pages the engines actually cite.

Answer engine optimisation is the work of getting your brand named, described accurately and cited in the answers AI assistants give — ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Grok among them. Where SEO earns a position on a results page, AEO earns a place in one written answer that names a few brands or none. It is also called generative engine optimisation (GEO); the two terms are used interchangeably.

SEO is about where your pages rank; AEO is about whether an AI answer names you, and what it says. The foundations overlap — crawlable pages, structured data, clear headings and a direct answer near the top help both. But AEO also depends on what other sites say about you, because engines build answers from reviews, forums, comparison articles and documentation as well as your own pages. Most teams keep their SEO tools and add AEO measurement alongside them.

An answer is assembled from what the model learned in training and, for engines that search the web while answering, the pages it fetches in the moment. The brands that get named are the ones described clearly and consistently across credible sources: your own site, reviews, comparisons, forums and documentation. Engines weigh those sources differently, which is why the same question can name different brands on different engines.

A mention is your brand named in the answer text. A citation is a URL the engine lists as a source. They are separate outcomes: an engine can cite your page without naming you, or name you while citing someone else's page. Noma tracks both — mentions drive your visibility and share of voice, and citations show which pages are shaping the answer.

Engines and measurement

Which engines Noma tracks, how it measures, and how far to trust it.

ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Grok — 5 in total. Paid plans track ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude; Grok is included on the trial and on Enterprise. Every tracked prompt is polled on each engine and broken out per engine in your dashboard.

Not at the moment. Noma tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Grok, each polled directly and reported on its own. It does not measure Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Microsoft Copilot or Meta AI.

Every tracked prompt is polled once a day, and the dashboard shows a rolling 30-day trend. You can also re-run any single prompt on demand from its detail page when you want an answer immediately rather than tomorrow.

Every tracked prompt is put to each engine once a day, from a fresh session with no memory or personalisation carried over. Noma stores the full answer, then records which brands it names, where each one appears, the URLs it cites and the sentiment around your brand. Visibility is the share of those answers that name you, reported per engine and across all of them.

Your own ChatGPT remembers your earlier conversations, may know roughly where you are, and can be set to a different model. Noma asks every prompt from a fresh session — the way an engine answers a stranger, which is who your buyers are. Answers also vary from one run to the next, so a single manual check can land either side of the tracked result.

The answers themselves are exact: every run stores the full response, so any figure can be traced back to the text and the engine that produced it. What varies is the engines — ask the same question twice and the brands named can change. That is why single-day movement is mostly noise. Read the trend over a week or more, on a prompt set you are not changing, and cover each topic with several prompts so one answer flipping does not swing the total.

Visibility, the share of answers that name you. Share of voice, your share of all brand mentions in those answers. Position, where in the answer you appear when you are named. Sentiment, how the answers that name you describe you, scored 0 to 100. And sources, the URLs the engines cited. Each can be read per engine and filtered by date range, engine and tag.

Enough to cover each topic you want to be known for with several differently worded prompts, and then keep the set stable so trends stay comparable. Starter includes 50 prompts, Growth 60 per project and Scale 100 per project. Keep the category questions a buyer would ask apart from prompts containing your brand name, which nearly always mention you and flatter the total.

Improving visibility

What to fix, AI crawlers, and how long results take.

Yes. The Actions page gathers what Noma's checks find into one list: the prompts where competitors are named and you are not, the third-party sources the engines rely on, the signals on your own site, and a 12-point site audit. Content drafts start from those gaps — Starter includes 10, and Growth and above are unlimited.

Yes. Agent Analytics reads your server logs — through a webhook, a Vercel log drain or an access-log upload — because AI crawlers do not run the JavaScript a page tag depends on. Crawler Logs shows which engines read which pages, Visitor Analytics shows the people who arrived from an AI assistant, and 360 Insights puts the two side by side to find pages engines read but never cite. Noma can also test your log pipeline end to end.

There is no fixed timeline, and a promise of one should make you wary. Engines that search the web while answering can reflect a change to a page they cite within weeks; what a model learned in training changes on a much slower cycle. Re-run the affected prompts once a change ships, then judge it on the trend over the following weeks rather than the next day.

Integrations and data

What Noma connects to, revenue, security, languages and countries.

Google Search Console, to compare your search queries with your tracked prompts; Claude, through Noma's MCP server; your server logs, through a webhook, a Vercel log drain or an access-log upload; and the Noma API, on Scale, Studio, Agency and Enterprise. Dashboard panels export to CSV, and Studio, Agency and Enterprise include white-label reports.

Yes. Noma runs an MCP server, so Claude can list your projects, competitors, tracked prompts and content gaps, return your visibility, mentions and site-health scores, and run a prompt check or a visibility scan. It authenticates with an API key you create in Noma.

Not with a modelled revenue figure. Most AI influence happens without a click, so any number claiming to capture all of it is a guess. Noma measures the evidence around it instead: whether answers name you and how, which AI crawlers read your pages, the visitors who arrive from AI assistants, and — with Search Console connected — how your search and AI visibility compare. Pair that with what buyers tell you about how they found you.

Data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.2 or later, each organisation's data is isolated with row-level security, and API keys are stored only as hashes. You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data at any time, and deletion requests are completed within 30 days, as the privacy policy sets out. If your security review has a questionnaire, email hello@nurdd.club.

No. Noma asks the engines its own tracked prompts, from its own fresh sessions, and records those answers. It has no access to anyone else's conversations with an AI assistant.

Yes. Each project holds a list of target markets, which shape the prompts Noma suggests. Prompts are asked exactly as you write them, so write them in the language your buyers use, and name the country or city in the prompt when location changes the answer. Tag prompts by market to read each one on its own.

Plans and pricing

Brands, prompts, pricing, agencies, referrals and managed service.

Yes. Each brand lives in its own workspace: 1 on Starter, 3 on Growth, 10 on Scale. Competitors are tracked inside a workspace — 25 of them on Growth, unlimited on Scale — so a rival's brand is counted without needing a workspace of its own.

Yes. The prompt allowance is per account, not per workspace, so you can put 30 prompts behind one brand and the rest behind another and move them whenever the priority changes.

Yes, in two ways. Move between plans at any time — Starter covers 50 prompts, Growth 60, Scale 100 — or add a prompt pack to your current plan without changing tier. Above 100, Enterprise is metered to whatever you actually need.

Prompts times engines times how often they refresh. That is what Noma pays the model providers, so that is what the plans are built on — a plan with more prompts costs more because every one of them is asked on every engine, every day. Monthly: Starter $79, Growth $299, Scale $799.

Not at the moment. Every plan is quoted and billed in US dollars, including for customers in India. A subscription that was already set up in rupees keeps being charged in rupees.

Yes. Choose the annual rate and you pay for ten months out of twelve — Starter works out at $65 a month instead of $79, which is 2 months free over a year. You are still billed monthly, nothing is charged up front, and you can cancel any time; the discount simply stops.

Agency plans meter by workspace rather than by prompt, because ten clients is ten separate sets of prompts and competitors. Studio and Agency cover 10 and 25 client workspaces, each with its own brands, competitors and reporting. Client data stays separated.

Yes. Studio includes white-label PDF reports and client-facing dashboards, and Agency includes white-label reports and dashboards. Each client sits in its own workspace, so one client's data never appears in another client's report.

Yes. When someone signs up through your link, you earn 20% of each payment from their workspace for 6 months, and they get 30% off for 6 months. Commission is held for 30 days against refunds and cancellations, and is paid out once it reaches $20 or ₹2,000.

Yes. On the Managed service, our strategists operate Noma on your behalf, so your team gets the tracking and the recommendations without running the tool day to day.

Trial and billing

The free trial, cancelling and how payments are taken.

Yes. Monthly and annual plans can both be cancelled at any time. If you cancel during the 3-day trial, you are not charged at all.

Through Razorpay, as a recurring mandate. You authorise it at checkout, and the plan amount is charged automatically each billing period, starting when the 3-day trial ends.

3 days, 25 prompts, all 5 engines, refreshed twice so you can see a change rather than a single snapshot. It is free. We take a card so billing can start on day 3; cancel before then and you are not charged at all. If it lapses your account goes read-only and nothing is deleted.
