What is competitive benchmarking?
Updated
Short answer
Every competitor in your set is measured on the same prompts, on the same days, on the same engines as you. That is what makes share of voice meaningful: it is your share of a fixed pool rather than a number in isolation.
What you can compare
- Visibility and share of voice, per engine.
- Sentiment, for the answers that name each brand.
- Which prompts each competitor holds and you do not, in gap analysis.
Keeping the comparison fair
Benchmarks only compare like with like while the prompt set and competitor list stay stable. When you change either, compare periods after the change separately from periods before it.
