Free Google AI Mode Checker: Rank vs AI Mode
See your Google ranking next to what Google AI Overviews and AI Mode cite for the same search.
What this checker shows
Enter a search query, your website and the market you sell in. We run that search on Google once, read the top 100 organic results, and note where your site appears and how many of your pages are there. In the same run we read the AI Overview, if Google shows one, and ask Google AI Mode the same question. For each AI answer you see the text and the pages it cites, with your own domain and brand highlighted.
Why your Google rank is only half the picture
When Google shows an AI answer, it sits above the links, and some readers never scroll past it. A page can rank in the top three and still be missing from the sources Google's AI answers quote, while a competitor that ranks lower gets the citation. The verdict at the top of each result states that gap in one line: whether you rank, whether AI Mode and the AI Overview cite you, and who they cite instead.
How to read the result
Cited means one of the answer's sources is a page on your domain. Named, not cited means the answer mentions your brand but links elsewhere. Not cited means the answer exists and does neither. No answer means Google showed no AI Overview, or AI Mode gave no answer, for that query in that market, which is useful to know in itself. The list of who AI answers point to instead shows each domain with its own Google position from the same search.
Limits
Results are desktop only, for one search at one moment. Global uses United States results. Every position and citation comes from that live search through DataForSEO; when a lookup fails we say so and leave it blank rather than estimate. With your email you can compare up to five queries at once and download the table as a CSV.

Common questions
- What is Google AI Mode?
- Google AI Mode is a conversational search mode in Google Search. Instead of a list of links, it writes an answer to the question and shows the pages it drew on as sources. It runs alongside the normal results page, so the same query can have a ranking on Google and a separate set of sources in AI Mode.
- Does ranking #1 mean AI Overviews cite me?
- No. A high ranking makes it more likely that Google's AI answers use your page, but it does not guarantee it. AI Overviews and AI Mode often cite pages from lower down the results, or from sites that do not rank for that query at all. This checker shows both side by side for one search so you can see the gap for yourself.
- How do I get cited in AI Overviews?
- Answer the question directly near the top of the page, in a sentence or two that can be quoted on its own. Keep facts specific and current, use clear headings, and make sure Google can crawl and index the page. Look at the sources this tool lists for your query: they show the kind of page Google's AI answers prefer to quote for it.
- Why is AI Mode different from AI Overviews?
- An AI Overview is a short summary that appears above the normal results for some queries, and many queries show none. AI Mode is a separate, fuller answer that Google writes on request, including for many queries that show no Overview. They can cite different sources for the same search, which is why this tool checks both.
- How often do AI Mode answers change?
- Often. AI answers can change from one day to the next as Google updates its index and models, and they can differ by location and by device. Treat a result here as a snapshot of one desktop search in one market. To see how answers move over time, track the same questions every day.
