What AI share of voice is

When a buyer asks ChatGPT or Perplexity which tools to consider, the answer names a few brands, in an order. AI share of voice is how much of that shortlist goes to you rather than to your competitors. This free check from Noma by Nurdd measures it for your brand and up to three competitors, on questions a buyer in your market would ask.

How we measure it

You give us your brand, your category, your market and your competitors. We suggest up to ten buyer questions, built from fixed templates so a later run can ask the same thing, and you can edit them. None of them may name your brand, because a question that names you measures nothing. You pick three of ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, and we ask each of them every question.

Every answer is read for each brand: whether it was named, and its position among all the brands the answer listed. A brand named first scores full weight; each later position counts a little less. On each engine a brand's share is its weighted mentions out of all the tracked brands' weighted mentions. The overall figure gives each engine equal weight. We also show the simpler count of answers that named each brand, since the two can differ.

How to read the report

The winner grid shows, for each question and engine, which of your brands was named first, and where you stood. Gap questions are the ones where a competitor was named on two or more engines and you on one or none. For each, we show the domains the engines cited in those answers, and what to do about them.

Limits worth knowing

This is one snapshot: the answers are what each engine said when we asked. We ask through the same gateway Noma's product uses, without a location setting, so the market reaches the engines through the wording of the questions. Not every engine cites sources. Google AI Mode is not included yet.

Common questions

What is share of voice in AI search?
It is the part of the conversation your brand gets when buyers ask AI assistants about your category. We ask several engines the same buyer questions, note which of your brand and your competitors each answer names and in what order, and split the result between the brands you entered.
How do you measure how often ChatGPT recommends a competitor?
Each answer is read for every brand you entered. A brand named first gets full weight, and each later position a little less, the same position weight Noma uses in its Visibility Index. We also show the plain count: how many answers named each brand at all.
Why do AI engines cite my competitor and not me?
Answers lean on what engines have learned and on the pages they find when they search. If a competitor is reviewed, listed or compared on the sites an engine reads, it is more likely to be named. The report shows which domains were cited in the answers that named each brand, where the engine cited any.
How often does AI share of voice change?
Answers can change from one day to the next, and engines update their models and their search results. A single run is a snapshot of what each engine said when we asked, not a lasting ranking.
Can I track this over time?
This free check is one snapshot. Noma, the paid product, asks your questions every day across its engines and shows each competitor's share of voice beside yours, so you can see how it moves.
