# How is visibility calculated?

**Short answer:** Visibility is the share of answers to your tracked prompts that name your brand, across the engines and period you have selected. Forty prompts on four engines is a hundred and sixty answers; if your brand appears in sixteen of them, visibility is 10%.

## What counts as a mention

A mention is your brand named in the answer text, in any of the forms you have registered as alternate spellings. A link to your site in the citation list without your name in the answer is not a mention: it counts as a source, which is tracked separately.

## What changes the number you see

- The period selected.
- Which engines are included: each is reported separately as well as together.
- A tag filter, which scopes every panel to the prompts carrying that tag.
- Changes to the prompt set, which are recorded and dated.
